The Voice
Research
At the heart of any project about AI voice cloning is the voice itself. What exactly is being ‘cloned’, or ‘copied’, when we consider the implications of AI and deep-fake audio recordings? Do people trust AI voices more than their human equivalents? Can people detect when a voice is produced by AI? And how do our judgements, views and attitudes towards voices influence our relationship with emerging AI technologies? These are just some of the questions we will be focussing on throughout this project.
We will be focussing on identifying whether AI voices are perceived differently to human voices, with a particular focus on trustworthiness and traits which could affect decision making in high stakes situations. We will explore this through a series of experiments designed to test people’s attitudes and judgements towards different voices.
